About Katt
Katt Green is a Portland-based commercial photographer whose work spans product and food photography, professional headshots, fashion and modeling, and live events. She graduated from Mt. Hood Community College’s commercial photography program with a 4.0 GPA and the distinction of being a valedictorian. As the first blind student in the program’s history, she completed her studies using an adaptive headset and other assistive technology to support her photography. Based on what she and the Oregon Commission for the Blind (OCB) have found so far, she is believed to be the first legally blind person in the United States to graduate from a commercial photography program using these technologies. Her work brings together technical knowledge and a creative perspective shaped by her experiences both behind and beyond the camera.
In 2021, Katt lost most of her vision after a severe seizure caused nerve damage and the resulting fall caused physical damage. At the time, she believed she might never be able to take photographs again. When the opportunity to return to photography arose at MHCC, she embraced it immediately and was soon back behind the camera. Rebuilding her practice meant finding new ways to work, drawing on her experience, and learning how adaptive technology could support her creative process. Returning to photography allowed her to reconnect with a part of herself she had feared was lost.
During her time at MHCC, Katt returned to photographing products and food for business marketing. She enjoys collaborating with businesses to showcase what they offer, creating images that reflect their products and help them connect with customers. These projects give her the opportunity to share her creative work while building lasting professional relationships. Whether photographing a carefully prepared dish or the details of a product, she approaches each image with attention to how it will serve the business using it.
Professional headshots and modeling sessions bring another kind of energy to Katt’s work. Every person arrives with something different to offer, from elaborate costumes and imaginative concepts to a clear vision for their professional image. She enjoys the creative possibilities of modeling photography and the purpose behind a strong business portrait. A headshot can shape a potential client’s first impression of someone they are considering hiring, and Katt values her role in helping people present themselves with confidence.
As head photographer and photo editor for The Advocate, MHCC’s student-run newspaper, during the 2024–2025 academic year, Katt covered breaking news throughout the Portland metropolitan area and events on campus. Working beyond the studio brought her the joy of being back in the action, photographing people and capturing moments as they unfolded. She has also photographed sporting events for clients who wanted dedicated coverage of a child or spouse, focusing on that individual throughout the event. Across her commercial, portrait, and editorial work, Katt finds fulfillment in creating photographs that matter to the people in them and the people they reach.
